A gadget vendor has announced a ₦100,000 bounty on a customer who allegedly stole a laptop from his shop, as exposed by CCTV footage that has since gone viral online.
The shocking incident was initially shared on TikTok by the vendor, known as @engrdom, who posted a clear video capturing the brazen act. In the clip, the suspect can be seen sitting calmly in the shop, pretending to browse or wait, while staff and other customers around him were busy and distracted.
Seizing the opportunity, the man skillfully reached behind him, picked up a laptop that was carelessly placed nearby, and smoothly hid it inside his shirt. He then adjusted his posture and nonchalantly walked out of the shop without drawing any immediate attention from the staff or other customers present at the time.
The stolen laptop is said to be worth several hundreds of thousands of naira, making the incident a significant loss for the vendor. According to the shop owner, he only realized the laptop was missing after noticing an inventory discrepancy and then decided to review the CCTV footage for clues, which revealed the shocking theft.
Determined to apprehend the culprit, the vendor has now offered a ₦100,000 reward to anyone who can provide credible information that will lead to the suspect’s identification and arrest. This move is aimed at encouraging members of the public to stay vigilant and assist in tracking down the thief.
In his statement, the vendor revealed that the same suspect had previously carried out a similar theft at another shop in New BANEX Plaza, shop B41, targeting his colleague’s business. He wrote: “This same guy just did the same to one of my colleagues at New BANEX shop B41. We need to look out for this guy. I, Dom-marc, still maintain my ₦100k bounty on his head.”
As the video continues to circulate widely on social media, it has sparked intense reactions among Nigerians, with many expressing anger and frustration over the repeated thefts, as well as sharing safety tips for shop owners.
