A Nigerian man has been accused of stealing an iPhone 16 from his girlfriend’s friend after being pressured to buy the same model by his girlfriend.
The shocking revelation was shared on X (formerly Twitter) and has since sparked widespread conversations online.
According to the post, the man’s girlfriend had asked him to buy her the newly released iPhone 16. Initially, he told her he couldn’t afford it, but she reportedly encouraged him to “find a way” like other men do.
Days later, the man returned with the requested phone and gifted it to her. However, suspicions arose when she realized the phone was locked and she couldn't access it despite trying several passcodes.
The situation took a dramatic turn when her friend visited and, upon attempting to unlock the device, gained immediate access. That was when the friend disclosed that her hostel had been robbed the previous day, and her iPhone 16 was among the stolen items.
The girlfriend, visibly shaken, recounted her ordeal in a now-viral video. She expressed her regret and disbelief that her boyfriend would resort to theft just to meet her demand.
She narrated: “When I saw the iPhone, I was so happy. But I noticed it was locked. I tried many passwords, it didn’t work. My friend later visited and said her house was robbed, including her iPhone 16. She tried unlocking the phone—and it opened instantly.”
The incident has sparked discussions about material pressure in relationships and the extreme measures some individuals take to fulfill expectations.
Many social media users have reacted strongly to the video, condemning both the man’s actions and the girlfriend’s pressure that may have contributed to the crime.
