Radhika Yadav, a talented and promising state-level tennis player, was allegedly shot dead by her own father, Deepak Yadav, at their residence in Gurugram after a heated dispute regarding her career choices and future aspirations.
Police sources confirmed that Deepak Yadav was arrested shortly after the tragic incident took place and has been in police custody since then, facing extensive questioning about his motives and mental state.
In his initial confession, Deepak admitted to officers that he felt humiliated and burdened by constant taunts from relatives and neighbours, who accused him of depending financially on his daughter’s income from tennis coaching and social media activities. He also stated that he had been struggling with severe mental distress, anxiety, and sleeplessness for almost two weeks before the shooting.[/p>
Radhika, who was once a rising star in competitive tennis circuits, had suffered a major injury two years ago that forced her to step away from professional competitions. Determined not to abandon her passion, she redirected her energy towards coaching young and aspiring tennis players, hoping to inspire and nurture future talent.[/p>
Her father, however, disagreed strongly with her decision to continue in the tennis field through coaching. Despite investing more than ₹2.5 crore into her training over the years, Deepak reportedly insisted that she give up her coaching business, claiming his own property earnings of ₹15 lakh per year were enough to sustain the family and that her continued efforts were unnecessary and a source of unwanted attention.[/p>
During one of their final confrontations, Radhika is reported to have passionately defended her coaching plans, telling her father, “You have spent ₹2.5 crore on me. I will not let that money go to waste. I will train young players using my experience and knowledge.” She believed it was her duty to use her skills for the benefit of upcoming athletes and to honor the sacrifices her family had made for her tennis journey.[/p>
In addition to her coaching, Radhika had also shown interest in the world of digital content creation, sharing reels, and even featuring in a music video, as she explored ways to build her personal brand and inspire a wider audience online. Unfortunately, under her father’s increasing pressure and disapproval, she was compelled to delete her social media accounts and withdraw from public digital activities, a move that deeply affected her emotionally.[/p>
