The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and educational empowerment. He recently announced the acquisition of a church building formerly owned by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Marine Base branch in Port Harcourt. In a bold and visionary move, he revealed that the facility will be transformed into a tuition-free school for disadvantaged children in the area.

Sharing the news via a Facebook post on Friday, May 16, Apostle Chinyere explained that the purchase was entirely funded through the tithes and offerings contributed by members of the Omega Power Ministry. His decision has been hailed by many as a clear example of prioritizing social welfare and community development through faith-based resources.

Interestingly, the clergyman revealed that one of his pastors had initially advised him to use the newly acquired property to establish another OPM branch. However, Apostle Chinyere declined the suggestion, stating that his focus was to meet the urgent educational needs of the surrounding community. He emphasized that education plays a vital role in breaking the cycle of poverty, crime, and hopelessness.

“By the Grace of GOD ALMIGHTY… I just used tithes and offerings from the church to buy a church building that will be converted to another OPM free school. My Pastor advised me to use the Church building for a branch of OPM church… but I refused,” he wrote in his post, stressing his commitment to using resources to serve the greater good.

Apostle Chinyere recounted his recent visit to the area where the building is located, describing it as a “densely populated” community filled with families living in extreme poverty. He was particularly moved by the sight of children wandering the streets during school hours, clearly unable to access basic education due to financial constraints.

“Lack of education is one of the major causes of poverty, crime and lack of salvation of souls. One of the weapons the early missionaries used to win many souls to Christ is free schools, free hospitals… then they introduced Jesus,” he explained, drawing a parallel between modern-day outreach and the foundational principles of early Christian missions.

Beyond the educational intervention, Apostle Chinyere used the opportunity to challenge the current trend among churches to open multiple branches in close proximity, often neglecting the socio-economic needs of the very communities they serve. He questioned the relevance of this expansion model when basic needs like education remain unmet.

“What is the essence of opening church branches very close to each other while it is the same Gospel of Christ that is being preached? There are many widows in that same church that their children are not going to school because they cannot afford their school fees,” he wrote, encouraging a re-evaluation of priorities within the church community.
