A 38-year-old man, identified as Victor Antwi, has allegedly caused widespread devastation after setting fire to multiple homes in the Ahodwo High Tension neighborhood of Kumasi, Ghana, following a breakup with his girlfriend.
According to local reports, Victor’s 25-year-old girlfriend, Gladys Sarfowaah, decided to end their relationship after enduring continuous threats and emotional abuse. Residents revealed that during their relationship, Gladys was subjected to severe emotional torment and threats involving a firearm, leaving her in constant fear for her safety.
On the night of the incident, Victor reportedly took advantage of a period when most men in the neighborhood were away watching a UEFA Champions League match at nearby viewing centers. Seizing this opportunity, he allegedly entered Gladys’ apartment and started a fire that quickly grew out of control.
The flames rapidly spread to adjacent houses, engulfing several homes in a matter of minutes and causing chaos among residents. Many families were forced to flee with only the clothes on their backs as their properties and belongings were consumed by the fire. Several witnesses described scenes of panic, with people running frantically to escape the smoke and heat.
Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene, but despite their efforts, they were only able to contain the fire after it had already inflicted extensive damage to the neighborhood. By the time the fire was brought under control, numerous families had been rendered homeless and were left in a state of shock and despair.
The Ghana Police Service has since launched a manhunt for Victor Antwi, who fled the scene immediately after allegedly committing the act. Law enforcement authorities have called on the public to provide any useful information that could lead to his arrest, emphasizing that he is considered dangerous due to his previous history of threats and violent behavior.
