Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the termination of the contract of their head coach, Ange Postecoglou, following a tumultuous and highly inconsistent 2024/25 season that saw mixed results across competitions.
Despite the club’s notable success in securing the prestigious Europa League title, which marked a significant achievement and brought silverware back to the club, Tottenham’s overall performance in the domestic league was disappointing, culminating in a 17th place finish in the Premier League, dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Postecoglou, an Australian coach, had initially inspired optimism by delivering on his promise to win a major trophy and successfully guided Tottenham to Champions League qualification through the Europa League final victory against Manchester United. However, concerns over his rigid tactical approach, combined with an inability to halt the club’s alarming decline in domestic league form, led to increasing pressure from the club’s management.
Chairman Daniel Levy, facing the difficult decision to preserve the club’s long-term ambitions and competitiveness, ultimately chose to relieve Postecoglou of his duties.
