Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire owner of INEOS and a key decision-maker at Manchester United, is reportedly growing increasingly uneasy over the uncertain future of newly-appointed manager, Ruben Amorim.
This concern stems from a series of mixed and contradictory statements made by Amorim in recent weeks, casting doubt on his long-term intentions with the Premier League club.
According to reports from The Sun, despite Ratcliffe’s continued willingness to financially support the club’s upcoming summer rebuild under Amorim, the manager’s comments have begun to raise internal red flags.
One major issue occurred after Amorim openly suggested that Manchester United might actually benefit from losing the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, arguing that the current squad is “not ready” for the pressures of Champions League competition.
Amorim’s fluctuating tone has been particularly frustrating. Though he only joined United at the start of the season, the Portuguese manager has both hinted at stepping down and then, shortly afterward, insisted he would not resign, as seen in a press briefing ahead of the Chelsea game.
These inconsistencies have prompted serious concerns at the top level of the club’s leadership. Sources suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now seeking firm reassurances from Amorim that he is fully committed to fulfilling the remaining two years of his contract with the Red Devils.
Despite United finishing a dismal 16th in the league table this season—one of their worst showings in Premier League history—the club’s hierarchy remains inclined to support Amorim, but only if he displays unwavering dedication to the project going forward.
The upcoming Europa League final against 17th-placed Tottenham, set to be played in Bilbao, has now become pivotal. Not only could a win secure United's qualification for European football next season, but it might also help bring some stability and clarity ahead of what is expected to be a transformative summer at Old Trafford.
As part of this overhaul, United have already begun targeting potential signings. Among those reportedly on their radar are Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, Ipswich Town’s promising striker Liam Delap, and reinforcements in both the goalkeeping and centre-back positions.
With much at stake both on and off the pitch, all eyes will be on Ruben Amorim—not only for his tactical decisions but for the certainty of his commitment to the Manchester United re
build.
