Former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has called on northern political leaders to support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign ahead of the 2027 general election. Tompolo, who recently threw his weight behind Tinubu’s second-term ambition, described the President as a good man with the necessary experience to elevate Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Tompolo made his appeal amid efforts by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to build a coalition aimed at unseating Tinubu. Tompolo emphasized the importance of allowing Tinubu to serve two terms, just as his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner, had done. Tompolo highlighted that it would be in the country’s best interest to give Tinubu the opportunity to complete his second term, which would ensure stability and continuity in leadership. He vowed to personally travel across all northern states to persuade the people of the region to support Tinubu’s reelection, calling for unity in the effort to back the current administration.
“We’ll do our part, even go out of our boundary to the northern part of Nigeria to talk to our brothers so that he will get his second tenure. Tinubu is a good person; he has the experience to bring this country to a higher level,” Tompolo said. He stressed that allowing Tinubu to serve his two terms would be fair and just, noting that former President Buhari had completed eight years without any controversy over his time in office. “Buhari spent eight years now. So, we don’t want anybody to cause any problem. Let Tinubu have his eight years too and go, then we will look for another person. There is no need for anybody to say we have a monopoly of power. We must allow Tinubu to do his eight years. We will appeal to everybody and by the grace of God everybody will support us,” Tompolo added.
Tompolo also disclosed that traditional rulers in Delta State have already endorsed President Tinubu for reelection, further strengthening the support base for the President’s second-term bid. This endorsement from influential leaders in the region is expected to play a significant role in consolidating the support for Tinubu as he prepares for his second term. Tompolo’s continued advocacy for Tinubu’s reelection and his active engagement with key political figures are seen as crucial steps in ensuring a successful campaign for the President in 2027.
