Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reacted to increasing speculation surrounding a potential political alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the 2027 general elections approach.
The speculation suggests that Obi might be considered to run as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate under a proposed single-term presidency arrangement, which has fueled widespread political discussions and media attention.
During a recent public appearance in Kubwa, Abuja—where he made charitable donations to a school and hospital project spearheaded by the Anglican Church—Obi addressed the matter when questioned by journalists.
“You can make of the report what you want. But I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” Obi stated, offering a cautious yet pointed reply that neither confirmed nor denied the claims outright.
While avoiding a direct affirmation or denial, Obi’s remarks follow multiple media reports indicating that Atiku may have extended an offer for him to be his running mate, as part of a broader power-sharing arrangement targeting the 2027 elections
