A Nigerian man has publicly accused the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of dishonesty following his claim that he abolished the Office of the First Lady during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
This serious accusation surfaced on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where user @abdullahayofel labeled Obi as a “419,” a common slang term used in Nigeria to denote someone involved in fraud or deceitful practices.
In a video clip that recently resurfaced, Peter Obi is heard explaining that he decided to shut down the Office of the First Lady because it was allocated more funding than some ministries in the state government.
Obi emphasized his affection for his wife but reasoned that since she was not elected by the people, she should not wield such influence or command a dedicated office.
He said: “The Office of the First Lady was getting more money than some of our ministries. I shut it down because nobody voted for my wife — it’s me they voted for. Both of us live in the house; she’s my wife, and I love her.”
Contradicting this claim, @abdullahayofel argued that the Office of the First Lady did indeed exist during Obi’s administration, thus implying that Obi’s statement was false.
