The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a 40-year-old man, identified as Yahaya Saleh, for allegedly attempting to bribe officers with a cash sum of ₦1.5 million. This bribe was intended to secure the release of a kidnap suspect who is currently under thorough investigation by the police authorities.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed in an official statement that the arrest was made possible through a carefully planned covert operation executed by the elite Scorpion Squad. This squad has been diligently working on dismantling a dangerous kidnapping network that has been operating in the FCT and nearby states.
According to reports, Saleh deliberately approached the investigators in charge of the case and boldly offered the ₦1.5 million bribe with the aim of obstructing justice and ensuring that the detained kidnap suspect would be set free without facing prosecution. His action was immediately flagged as a criminal attempt to pervert the course of justice.
Instead of accepting the bribe, the vigilant officers acted swiftly and professionally by rejecting the illicit offer and promptly taking steps to arrest Saleh on the spot. Following his arrest, legal proceedings were initiated against him in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, has publicly commended the officers involved for their exemplary integrity and unwavering dedication to ethical standards. He emphasized that the FCT Police Command will continue to enforce the law strictly and ensure that no individual, regardless of influence or financial power, is above the law.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the wider kidnap syndicate remains ongoing as the command intensifies efforts to identify and bring all collaborators and perpetrators to justice. The police have also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to assist in combating criminal activities across the territory.
