Popular journalist and media personality, Dele Momodu, has strongly berated the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following Wike’s recent controversial outburst during a public address on Sunday. Dele Momodu’s sharp criticism has stirred significant reactions from both supporters and critics online.
It would be recalled that Nyesom Wike, on Sunday, organized a Thanksgiving service to celebrate what he described as a successful inauguration and ongoing projects in the FCT. During the event, Wike delivered a lengthy and fiery speech in which he openly criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as well as Peter Obi, particularly targeting Obi’s presidential ambitions and his style of politics.
While speaking in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television, Dele Momodu expressed his disappointment at Wike’s approach, emphasizing that governance should be focused on performance and not on personal attacks or self-glorification. He stressed that no country is governed entirely by saints; rather, it is led by individuals who are dedicated to delivering results for the people.
Momodu did not hold back as he questioned Wike’s actual achievements, implying that his political success has been exaggerated and lacking in substance. He further argued that Wike had not made any significant or impactful contributions that deserved commendation.
Taking a swipe at Wike’s legal background, Dele Momodu humorously but scathingly suggested that if Wike had chosen to pursue a career in law, which he originally studied for, he would not have achieved much. Instead, he opined that Wike would have ended up as nothing more than a “charge and bail” lawyer — a term commonly used in Nigeria to describe lawyers who handle minor, often low-paying cases, typically at police stations and courts.
His words read …
“It is unfair for Wike to just come here – what has Wike done in his life? If he practiced law, he would have been a charge and bail lawyer.”
Dele Momodu’s statement has since sparked widespread debate among political observers and social media users, with many praising his courage to speak out boldly, while others criticized him for being too harsh on the minister.
