According to reports, the janaza (Islamic funeral prayer) for the former president was conducted around 4:50 pm on Tuesday. His burial strictly followed Islamic rites, marking the end of an era for the highly influential leader who once governed the country with a firm hand and left a lasting impact on Nigerian politics and governance.

Late Muhammadu Buhari laid to rest.

His remains were earlier flown from London, where he passed away after a prolonged illness, to Katsina aboard a Nigerian Air Force jet. He was accompanied by top officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior members of the federal government, who all expressed deep sorrow at his passing.

Upon arrival in Katsina, security was exceptionally tight. Armoured vehicles, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and heavily armed military personnel were deployed along major routes to ensure a smooth and secure procession into Daura, reflecting the high regard and national significance attached to the burial.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also arrived in Katsina on the same afternoon to personally attend the burial ceremony. He was joined by First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, among other high-ranking officials and respected dignitaries from different parts of the country.

Furthermore, a high-profile delegation from the Republic of Niger was present to pay tribute to Buhari, underscoring the strong diplomatic ties and regional influence he maintained throughout his leadership and post-presidency years.

The atmosphere in Daura was somber, with family members, political allies, local residents, and international guests openly weeping and expressing grief over the loss of a leader many described as disciplined and principled.
