The Living Faith Church, also widely known as Winners Chapel, has conducted the burial ceremony of a 22-year-old man who tragically lost his life after falling from one of the top floors of the iconic 26-storey Cocoa House located in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The deceased, a young graduate from Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), was reported to be undergoing a cybersecurity training programme in the building at the time of the fatal incident which occurred on Tuesday.
Further reports from Tribune Online revealed that the victim lived with his mother in the Meridian area of Apata, within the city of Ibadan, while his father currently resides in the United States.
A family acquaintance who spoke under anonymity described the late trainee as a well-mannered and modest young man. “He came from a good home and was very humble and respectful. He had a car that his parents gave him, but you’d never know from the way he carried himself,” the source recounted.
Another witness shed light on the moments following the tragedy, claiming that the situation was not properly handled by the training company. “The company said he was taken to the emergency ward, but he had already died. His mother wasn’t even contacted by the company. It was a random person who called her,” the source said with deep concern.
Eyewitnesses also noted that when staff from 32 FM, a radio station situated within Cocoa House, attempted to document the incident with photographs, their efforts were blocked. “His body was quickly covered with a cloth. I heard his body was badly mangled,” another witness revealed.
Meanwhile, additional sources have confirmed that the deceased’s family is contemplating taking legal action against the company responsible for the training programme. The family alleges negligence both in terms of safety protocols within the building and in how the aftermath of the incident was handled—especially the communication breakdown and lack of prompt support.
This heartbreaking development has sparked discussions on the importance of workplace safety and accountability, especially in high-rise environments like Cocoa House.
