Controversial investigative journalist Kemi Olunloyo has responded to the wave of criticism trailing her recent revelations about her late father, former Oyo State governor Victor Omololu Olunloyo. In a defiant and emotional series of TikTok videos and an Instagram post, Kemi fiercely defended her stance, maintaining that she is finally free from the trauma she claims was inflicted by her father. The outspoken journalist, known for her bold and often provocative opinions, addressed the backlash head-on, insisting that she was only speaking her truth.
The allegations she raised, accusing her late father of physically and emotionally abusing her and her siblings, had previously stirred a mix of outrage and sympathy. However, faced with intense criticism for speaking out about such deeply personal matters, Kemi has refused to back down. She boldly called out those attacking her for revealing what she believes has long been concealed. "Why are people calling me all these ugly names on blogs that I’m not? My dad and the rest all portrayed me that way to the world," she wrote in a passionate Instagram post, questioning the public’s reaction.

Kemi, who has always been unfiltered in her opinions, explained that the process of sharing her experiences in a series of 12 videos within 14 hours was deeply therapeutic and liberating for her. She emphasized her newfound sense of freedom, stating, “I am now FREE of the bondage in my life, career, and the Olunloyo generational curse.” Her declaration seemed to mark a personal turning point, as she described the process as a cathartic release from years of emotional burden.
In addition to confronting the public’s criticism, Kemi reflected on the strained family dynamics, revealing that none of her father’s 11 grandchildren had paid tribute to him on social media. This, she hinted, spoke volumes about the broader disconnection within the Olunloyo family. The absence of tributes and public recognition seemed to underscore the impact her father’s actions had on their relationships.
Kemi also made a significant announcement regarding her future: she will not be returning to Nigeria. “I will not be setting foot in Nigeria, let alone in Ibadan. It is extreme bad luck for me again. I will not be going to that city or country ever again in my lifetime. I have begun rebranding my life,” she declared. This statement further confirmed her decision to sever ties with her past and the painful experiences associated with her upbringing.
Looking ahead, Kemi touched upon the upcoming posthumous 90th birthday of her father, reflecting on their tumultuous relationship and the weight of family history. She acknowledged his flaws, saying, “He made a lot of mistakes, he was wicked and selfish. I forgave him in 2021, but he wanted a padi padi family relationship — it was no more.” Kemi shared that the events surrounding her father’s behavior and its aftermath tore the family apart, leaving her with a profound sense of loss and disillusionment. Despite this, she asserted that her forgiveness was a personal decision, signaling a crucial chapter in her journey towards healing.
