Veteran Nigerian music producer and singer, ID Cabasa, has broken his silence on the tragic killings in Benue State, joining the chorus of voices demanding justice and accountability.
In an emotional statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, June 16, 2025, the respected producer expressed profound grief over the attacks, describing them as heartbreaking and inhumane. He called on the government to take urgent action to protect citizens and prosecute the perpetrators responsible for the violence.
ID Cabasa, known for mentoring some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including 9ice and Olamide, revealed that he has a strong personal connection to Benue State, having served there during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year and later working in the state capital, Makurdi, which he affectionately referred to as "MarkTown."
“I served in Benue State! Worked there for a while after service in Makurdi (MarkTown). It breaks my heart, all these killings going on in the state. As my prayer goes out to our people there, I also urge the government to take responsibility to prosecute those behind these crimes against humanity,” he tweeted.
The statement follows a devastating attack that occurred on the night of Friday, June 13, in the Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area. According to local reports, the attack, allegedly carried out by armed herders, resulted in the deaths of over 200 people — many of them women, children, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
